Prom and Prejudice

Prom and Prejudice - Elizabeth Eulberg First things first: Pride and Prejudice is my favourite book ever, and I read it at least 10 times, I know some parts by heart.

The point of this book is to be as close to P&P as possible. That was the thing that attracted me to the book in the first place. But everything was too similar for me to actually enjoy it. I knew what was going to happen, a lot of scenes were exactly the same but put in the present.

Maybe I would've got over it if the characters were better, but they were all pale copies of Jane Austen's.

Lizzie was annoying and her blindness bothered me. Will (I can't think of him as Darcy) wasn't nearly as appealing. And the secondary characters were pretty flat, Charlotte especially. The only good one was Collin.

And the way they talk didn't fit the setting. It would be appropriate in a 19th century drawing room.

Maybe (just maybe) the rating would've been better if I wasn't comparing the book & characters to the originals. I found them to be severely lacking.

Rating:

1.5 stars.
